COMMERCIALISING QUANTUM TECHNOLOGIES UK RESEARCH and INNOVATION FUNDING
The challenge provides funding for commercialising products and technologies based on quantum science.
It builds on the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme (NQTP) to drive innovation across sectors including automotive, healthcare, infrastructure, telecommunications, cybersecurity and defence.
This challenge is investing more than £174 million, supported by over £390 million from industry, to advance the commercialisation of new products and technologies based on advances in quantum science.

THE EUROPEAN UNION'S WIFI4EU INITIATIVE
That aims to provide free-to-access public Wi-Fi services and provide seamless connectivity to public digital services.
The European Commission wishes to promote free Wi-Fi connectivity for citizens and visitors in public spaces such as parks, squares public buildings, libraries, health centres, street markets and museums everywhere in Europe through the WiFi4EU initiative.
The budget of the WiFi4EU initiative is €120Million between 2018 and 2020. It will support the installation of state-of-the-art Wi-Fi equipment in the centres of community life, areas for regeneration and economic growth.
The WiFi4EU initiative resulted with 186 UK local authorities being awarded the €15,000 grant resulting with a total of over €2.7Million in funding from the European Commission.

High frequency trading (HFT) is progressively dominating the world of equity trading. It involves systems that execute trades at ultra-fast speeds, in less than a millisecond, across various stock exchanges. HFT serves as an excellent illustration of Big Data analytics, particularly the velocity aspect. For HFT strategies to yield profits, it’s crucial to process big data in real time.
This paper explores the vision and the design challenges that HFT systems encounter and the potential for low-latency big data processing in this domain.
Most HFT systems utilize real-time stream processing, which has certain limitations. We propose a theoretical framework for constructing HFT systems with Stream Insight using the complex event processing approach, which could address the shortcomings of stream processing.
In this vision paper the suitability of this framework for HFT applications is examined and outlined.

Upgrading an e-mail system for more than 190 people can be a delicate operation, especially for a company involved in the dynamic business of television production - where time really is money. The exercise is more difficult when the migration involves establishing mobile access to corporate information. Yet for Global Television, the process could not have been more straightforward. The Australian television production facilitator looked past Lotus Notes / Domino and deployed Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft Outlook to save bandwidth and resources.
The subsequent consolidation of servers, centralised management an out-of-the box application has helped Global Television save 20% on the cost of new licenses - all of which have been a ratings winner with the management at Global Television.
